  • Presidents Proclamation: President Doug Whitlock has designated the month of October as Disabilities Awareness Month on the EKU campus. The campus community is invited to attend all activities. Stop by the Disabilities Office and view the official Proclamation. Student Services Building, third floor Room 361.
  • Library, Richmond campus: Book display. Disability topic/author book displayed on end caps throughout the entrance area.

Thursday, October 1, ADA AWARENESS DAY!
Join the fun outside the Powell Plaza between the Powell Building and the Bookstore.
Disability simulations, wheelchair obstacle course, booths, informational tables and representatives from both on and off campus will be present. Oct. 1 is our ADA Awareness Kick-off Day!

Friday, October 2, What supervisors need to know October 2, 12-2, Faculty Lounge, Keen Johnson
The discussion will ask participants to explore how their attitudes toward educating college students with disabilities impact their instructional practices. Also, common practices in serving college students with disabilities will be discussed, including things that staff can do to facilitate student success. Presented by Teresa Belluscio.

Monday, October 5, ASL Comedy Show.
Attached is a flyer for the show. The American Sign Language Association and the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs are hosting Keith Wann's ASL Comedy Tour featuring Keith Wann, Francisco, and Crom Saunders Oct 5th 2009 at 8 pm  There is a Deaf Social from 7-8 and the Show will be 8-10. The show and social is being held at the SSB auditorium. Tickets prices are as follows: 1=$20.00              2=$35.00            3=$50.00            4=$65.00           5=$80.00

The discussion will ask participants to explore how their attitudes toward educating college students with disabilities impact their instructional practices. Also, common practices in serving college students with disabilities will be discussed, including things that professors can do to facilitate student success.

Tuesday, October 6, Web Accessibility Awareness
10:10-11:00 a.m., Technology Studio, Case Annex 256
In this class, we review the laws and EKU policies regarding web accessibility. We explain how to take simple steps towards accessibility using multiple content formats and universal design. Awareness issues are covered by viewing a short video of students using assistive technologies, and playing with disability simulators. Includes discussion of other user limitations, for instance lack of sound cards, slow modems, phone browsing, and more. Parker Owens

Dustin Carter has overcome many challenges through athletics, and faces additional demands as a college student. The event is free and parking will be available in the nearby Alumni Coliseum parking lot.

Saturday, October 17th,  5K run and Homecoming Parade
The ADA Awareness walk will be part of the parade, not the 5K run.  We will meet at 10:30am in the Combs Hall parking lot.  The parade will go down Lancaster, to Main, then to Collins.  The parade begins at 11am.  The shirts will be free for those who participate, if they email Mark Howard in advance of the t-shirt order.
