ADA ACCESSIBILITY COMMITTEE
Minutes of Wednesday, August 16, 2000
The ADA Accessibility Committee met on Wednesday, August 16, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. in the Combs Building, Room 430. The following individuals attended:

  Dr. Dorothy Mercer Dr. Kim Naugle

Old Business

  • Committees request for and support of closed captioning equipment updates for the Library:  Information from Dr. Fred Kolloff

    - Dr. Naugle received an e-mail message from Dr. Kolloff regarding new accessible equipment.

  • Status of Web Links for ADA Committee

    - Ms. Clark will be checking on the status of becoming a "Quick Link" on the EKU website.

  • Committee Budget Line

    - Moved till next meeting.

  • Admission Policy Update

    - The policy went through. There are a few loopholes regarding the hearing impaired, head injury students, and others that fall into this category.

    - The Committee would like to see the finished copy of the policy.

    - Ms. Belluscio will be getting a full copy of the policy for everyone for the next meeting.

  • Parking changes over summer

    - Dr. Naugle saw that the Perkins parking lot had its handicap spaces made van accessible.

    - No new spots were added next to the Weaver Building.

    - No changes on University Drive.

  • Election of Officers/Sub-committees

     - Chair Nomination made by Ms. Clark for Dr. Naugle

  • Plan for Fall Meetings

    - To have a set time every month for a one (1) hour meeting.

    - For the Fall 2000 semester we will meet every second Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. in the Combs Building, Room 430.

  • Brochure Ideas

    - Moved till next meeting. Motion made by Dr. Dilka; seconded by Mr. Rosenblatt and all were in favor.

  • Other [Top]ics and Concerns

    - Dr. Mercer has concerns regarding students who are not able to keep financial aid due to their disability. Suggestion was made by Dr. Naugle that Dr. Mercer and Ms. Belluscio work together on a letter to the Department of Financial Assistance regarding disability accommodations.

    - Ms. Belluscio is going to contact the Director of Financial Assistance, John Fish, for some more information regarding the accommodations issue.

    -Dr. Loy mentioned the accommodations issue with the AC Pool. Dr. Naugle said that the Committee is going to have to start the process again regarding the pools accessibility.

    -Ms. Belluscio mentioned that the Wellness Center in the Weaver Building has been newly equipped. The Wellness Center has been cleaned up and their hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

    - Motion was made to adjourn by Dr. Dilka; seconded by Dr. Mercer and all were in favor.
