ADA AWARENESS & ACCESSIBILITY COMMITTEE
Minutes of Wednesday, October 11, 2000
The ADA Awareness & Accessibility Committee met on Wednesday, October 11, 2000, at 11:15 a.m. in the Combs Building, Room 430. The following individuals attended:

The meeting was brought to order by Dr. Naugle. Dr. Naugle asked everyone to introduce themselves. The first order of business was the review of the minutes. Motion was made to approve the minutes by Dr. Kautzmann; second by Ms. Coyer, all were in favor.
Old Business

  • Member additions and updated list sent to Dr. Rita Davis (Ms. Clark)

    -The list was sent to and received by Dr. Davis's office.

  • Status of Web Links for ADA Committee (Ms. Clark)

    1. Off accessibility link on every main web page (i.e. Visitors, Prospective Students)

      -The committee is included on the accessibility website. This accessibility link is on every EKU homepage.

      -Ms. Clark showed the committee printouts of where the committee is being represented on the EKU website.

    2. Off Students with Disabilities Quick Link site

      -The committee has a link off of Students with Disabilities, the Equal Opportunity Office, the Student Interpreting Services, and the EKU Accessibility site.

    3. Kudos to Ms. Clark for access and quality of site

      -Thank you to Ms. Clark for making the committee accessible on the EKU website.

    4. Other Web Talk

      -Ms. Clark and Ms. Coyer will be taking an accessibility online course starting in November 13, 2000.

      -Ms. Clark will be talking with Mr. Ron Yoder regarding the Accessibility Link on the main homepages.

  • Committee Budget Line (Mr. Herzog)

    -Tabled to next meeting.

  • Parking Status and Projects (Dr. Naugle and Dr. Mercer)

    1. Van for committee meetings

      -Mr. Herzog picked up Dr. Kautzmann for the meeting.

      -Dr. Kautzmann says, "Thank you."

      -Van pickup for November 15 meeting will be in the Dizney parking lot, at the ramp closest to Brockton, next to the round observatory.

    2. Parking status/projects

      1. Status (Mr. Jozefowicz)

        -Van accessible parking has been put in at Perkins.

        -University Drive has been a difficult location to get any work done. There will be some changes occurring there in the near future. One of the future changes will be new signage.

      2. Projects (Dr. Mercer)

        -Tabled to next meeting.
  • Disability accommodations statement for financial aid advising (Ms. Belluscio and Dr. Mercer)

    -Ms. Belluscio has talked with Mr. John Fish, Director of Financial Assistance.

    -Ms. Belluscio is working on a statement for Financial Assistance regarding accommodations with financial aid.
New Business
  • Awareness sub-committees report (just any pending date, etc.)

    1. "Day" (Dr. Dilka and Mr. Herzog)

      -Awareness Day will be in the spring semester

      -Mr. Rosenblatt will check on the official awareness week.

    2. "Year" (Dr. Loy and Dr. Kautzmann)

      -Some of the ideas Dr. Loy has are guest speakers, round table discussions, a possible lecture series, etc.

      -Dr. Loy would like any ideas regarding awareness activities etc. to be sent to him by e-mail to steve.loy@eku.edu.

    -Mr. Rosenblatt will be talking with Ms. Meg Quarles of Student Development regarding activities that could go in conjunction with the committee and the Greek organizations.

  • Committee member's issues?

    -Mr. Herzog mentioned a few projects that Facilities Services is working on.

    -Platform lifts in several locations on campus
         (Library, Whalin Complex - Ault and Fitzpatrick)

    -Accessible restrooms
         (Arlington/Mule Barn and Begley Building - Fourth Floor)

    -Curb Cutouts
         (Arlington/Mule Barn)
Motion was made to adjourn by Mr. Jozefowicz; second by Mr. Rosenblatt, all were in favor.
