| The ADA Awareness & Accessibility Committee met on Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at 11:15 a.m. in the Combs Building, Room 430. The following individuals attended: |

| The meeting was brought to order by Dr. Naugle. The first order of business was the review of the minutes. Motion was made to approve the minutes by Dr. Kautzmann; second by Ms. Coyer, all were in favor. |

Old Business
- Parking Status and Projects (Dr. Naugle, Mr. Herzog and Dr. Mercer)
- Parking on University Drive (Mr. Jozefowicz)
-Dr. Naugle has left messages with Mr. Jozefowicz but has not had any responses.
-There isn't going to be any students here between the spring and intersession semesters. This would be an excellent time to work on University Drive.
-Dr. Mercer asked if the placing of a handicap spot on either side of the fire hydrant spot in the Martin/Combs parking lot was still going to happen?
- Parking survey in progress (Dr. Mercer)
-The final report is due the week of finals.
-The suggestions made were primarily geared towards University Drive.
-Need extra parking in the family housing apartments.
-Motion was made for the completed report to be sent to Mr. Jozefowicz for his review. This would provide him with justification for these new spots. The report also needs to be sent to Ms. Clark for placement on the committee website. Ms. Belluscio made motion; second by Mr. Herzog, all were in favor.
-Dr. Mercer thanked the committee for all its support.
- Report on the ADA and the Supreme Court decision debate March 27th (Dr. Lisette Kautzmann)
-Motion was made to send a letter to all the debaters as well as Dr. Bob Miller for being a part of the debate. Motion by Dr. Dilka; second by Dr. Mercer, all were in favor.
-Dr. Kautzmann thanked Ms. Underwood for all her information that she provided to the debaters.
- Report on the Psychological Disabilities Teleconference (Kerri Clark)
-Ms. Clark said that the teleconference went well. She wished that the attendance was a little better than what it was.
-Media Resources has a copy of the teleconference on videotape.
-Ms. McClain will follow up with the people the teleconference letter was sent out to.
-Ms. Clark will put the conference URL on the committee website along with the username and password for more materials presented at the teleconference.
-Ms. Underwood said that it had wonderful support from: Administrative Affairs, Academic Affairs & Research, Equal Opportunity Office, University Counsel, and Student Judicial & Disabilities Office.
- Report on Contact with Dr. Davis concerning the establishment of a budget line for the committee (Dr. Naugle)
-Dr. Naugle spoke with Dr. Rita Davis and she is in support for the committee to have a budget.
-A tentative time to submit is for the next budget in January 2002.
-Dr. Davis told Dr. Naugle that her office would be willing to support as much as possible.
-The line item that Dr. Naugle is requesting is $2000.00. For other expenses would be through other supporters.

- Awareness sub-committees report (just any pending date, etc.)
- "Day" (Dr. Dilka and Mr. Herzog)
- Booth/Speaker/Activities?
-The following are going to be tables represented at Awareness Day:

-Mr. Herzog invited his neighbor to come enjoy in Awareness Day. She raises and trains dogs for the blind.
-Mr. Herzog sent out Awareness buttons April 10, 2001.
-Mr. Herzog said that there would be refreshments and lunch for the table workers.
-Ms. Belluscio will talk with the Progress promoting the day.
-Mr. Herzog will be bringing the antique wheelchair.
-Ms. Belluscio mentioned that she tried calling Ms. Pamela Wallace to invite her to Awareness Day and she is no longer the State ADA Coordinator. The new coordinator is Mr. Norb Ryan.
-Ms. Clark will post the Awareness Day on the main events.
- Tim Farmer Radio Interview
-Ms. Belluscio did a wonderful job.
-Ms. Belluscio said that towards the end of the program the discussion of fishing came up - just had to happen.
-Ms. Belluscio will send a thank you email to Mr. Farmer and Mr. Herzog will send a thank you letter to Dr. Bob Kustra.
-Ms. Belluscio gave Mr. Farmer an EKU t-shirt and some awareness buttons.
- "Month" (July) (Dr. Dilka and Mr. Herzog)
-Discussion of having banners posted on University Drive and other places promoting Disabilities Awareness Month in July.
-To proceed with a flyer from the committee to the University Community.
-Ms. Clark brought a sample flyer to the meeting. The flyer was passed around for the committee's review.
-For the first newsletter (Summer/Fall 2001) the following [Top]ics were selected:
~ Identification for Services with the Disabilities Office
~ Financial Aid for Students with Disabilities
~ Events.
-Motion was made for a subcommittee to be formed for the newsletter.
The subcommittee selected:
~ Ms. Kerri Clark
~ Ms. Teresa Belluscio
~ Mr. Ed Herzog
~ Dr. Steve Loy.
Dr. Kautzmann made motion; second by Dr. Loy, all were in favor.
- "Year" (Dr. Loy and Dr. Kautzmann)
-Nothing at this time.
- Committee member's issues?
-Ms. Belluscio said the accessible map is being revised for the Fall 2001 semester.
-Ms. Belluscio has had little response from Mr. John Fish, Financial Aid. She is still awaiting more information.
-Dr. Naugle asked the committee to think about the following:
~ Meeting during intersession and summer
~ Meeting times for the fall.
-Ms. Underwood introduced her new assistant, Ms. Karen McClain. |
