| The ADA Awareness & Accessibility Committee met on Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at 11:15 a.m. in the Combs Building, Room 430. The following individuals attended: |

Old Business
- Banners for Disabilites Awareness Month (July)
-Mr. Herzog talked with Dr. Lee Van Orsdel regarding the banners on University Drive. The Governor's Scholars Program has signage up for the month of July.
-Mr. Herzog is going to try to get other signage up regarding the Disabilities Awareness Month over campus.
-Mr. Herzog is going to talk with Dr. Van Orsdel regarding the arrangements for signage and displays in the entrance of the Library.
-Ms. Clark is going to put Disabilities Awareness Month on the main events of the EKU website.
-Ms. Clark is going to contact Public Relations & Marketing to have them include some verbiage in the upcoming EKUpdate. This will depend on a summer issue.
- ADA Newsletter
-Ms. Clark passed out samples of the newsletter.
-Mailing, printing and expenses regarding this newsletter was discussed. Decision was made that there should be key locations instead of a mass mailing to all students and employees. The key locations include:
~ Administrative Offices
~ Academic Offices
~ Residential Halls
~ Aramark (Food Services)
~ Barnes & Noble (Bookstore)
-Mr. Herzog would like to see law updates regarding the ADA in the newsletter.
-Ms. McClain suggested that we do two pieces of paper for posting purposes instead of the front and back scheme.
-The first profile in the newsletter will hopefully be on a student.
-The first disability spotlight will be on hearing impairment. Ms. Belluscio is going to ask Ms. Shirley Rivard to help write up a paragraph or two regarding this disability.
-Ms. Belluscio is going to ask Mr. Laurence Hayes if he would write something up for the Faculty/Staff Corner.
-Dr. Naugle asked to have this statement placed at the beginning of the Disabilities Statement on the newsletter: As of, January 4, 2000, all faculty members are required to include the following statement in all syllabi; "The statement here."
-Dr. Naugle also asked to have this put at the bottom of the newsletter: AVAILABLE IN ALTERNATIVE FORMAT, please contact accessibility@eku.edu or call Kerri Clark at 622-1706.
-Ms. McClain is going to draft a memo for the mailing and posting of the newsletter in the mentioned locations. The committee is going to try to get Dr. Michael Marsden's support for the newsletter.
-Deadlines:

New Business
- Fire Evacuation
-Ms. Clark asked what the procedure was for individuals in wheelchairs to get out of a building if the elevator could not be used. Dr. Naugle said that the procedure is to have all individuals go to the stairway. The first areas the firefighters are to check would be there.
-Ms. Belluscio will bring copies of the EKU Evacuation Plan to the next meeting.
-Mr. Herzog mentioned about having an information sheet at the elevator regarding evacuation procedures for all individuals. |
