Minutes of Wednesday, October 10, 2001

| The ADA Awareness & Accessibility Committee met on Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at 11:15 a.m. in the Combs Building, Room 415. The following individuals were in attendance: |

The meeting was brought to order by Dr. Naugle. The first order of business was the review of the minutes. Motion was made to approve the minutes by Dr. Callahan; second by Ms. Belluscio, all were in favor.
Introductions were made around the room. Mr. Edwards was asked to describe the duties and responsibilities of Protection & Advocacy. Dr. Naugle in return described the duties and responsibilities of the Committee. |

Old Business
- Parking Status and Projects
- Addition of spaces on University Drive-etc. (Mark Jozefowicz)
- Additions in front of the Cammack Building have been completed.
- Mr. Jozefowicz and Dr. Naugle have discussed the parking in passing.
- Major discussion regarding the parking status has been tabled to the next meeting.
- Recently the parking next to the Case Annex Building has been made into parking for the Department of Facilities Services.
- Suggestion for a possible parking lot to place more handicap spaces is in front of Todd Hall and behind the Powell Building.
- Additional parking spaces are needed.
- Discussion for future meeting when Mr. Jozefowicz is in attendance:
~ Faculty & Staff permanent parking permits;
~ Additional signage on parking spaces describing or explaining parking space(s) -
as well as adding the fine on the extra signage.
- Disability accommodations statement for financial aid advising (Ms. Belluscio and Dr. Mercer)
- Ms. Shelley Park was able to attend this meeting to discuss financial aid for individuals with disabilities.
- Ms. Park assured the committee that students are able to receive aid for part-time status.
- Ms. Park discussed that Financial Assistance receives money from Title IV to help students pay for their education.
- If a student drops out before the semester is over they are required to pay back their Title IV monies. If the student fails the semester (trying to make it through the semester) they are not required to pay back their Title IV monies but they are put on Academic Silence.
- Academic Silence is made up of a Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals Committee. This committee is made up of faculty, staff and students. This committee asks why isn't progress being made with class completion as well as passing grades.
- Dr. Mercer asked that Ms. Park send something to Advising to have them send out a notice to their advisors to let students know about this Financial Assistance - that you are able to receive it on any amount of hours you are taking.
- Ms. Park is going to contact Ms. Diana McGregor regarding getting materials out to advisors.
- If you apply for part-time financial aid you will only be awarded part-time assistance.
- Report on invitations to join committee for
- SGA Representative
- Ms. Belluscio is going to talk with Mr. Nick Bertram regarding the representation at Committee meetings.
- Panhellenic Representative
- Dr. Naugle is going to talk with Mr. Jey Marks regarding the representations at Committee meetings.

- Committee Appointments
- Awareness subcommittees report
- Invite Financial Assistance to be apart of the next Awareness Day with information on aid, with questions and answers regarding aid, etc.
- Newsletter is on hold
~ Ms. Clark is awaiting information from members for completion of the newsletter.
~ Possibly have Mass Communications classes provide stories on and off campus.
- Ideas for the future:
~ Survey of Technology for Disabilities
- Technology that is assistive to you on campus?
- What technology you use that isn't provided on campus that can be assistive?
- ADA website facelift coming soon!
Motion was made to adjourn by Ms. Belluscio; second by Dr. Loy, all were in favor. |
