The ADA Awareness & Accessibility Committee met on Wednesday, April 07, 2004, at 11:15 a.m. in the Crabbe Library in Room 201.

The following individuals were in attendance:

Review of Minutes

The meeting was brought to order by Dr. Huff. Review of the minutes from March 03, 2004, meeting; motion was made to accept the minutes by Dr. Huff, second by Ms. Belluscio; all were in favor.


Old Business

  • Update on letter to the President for accessibility coordinator position

  • Ms. Belluscio gave an overview and rationale of position.

    President Glasser has acknowledged receipt of the letter but has not responded.

    Dr. Huff and Dr. Hayes will schedule a meeting with the President to discuss the issue further.

  • Update on ADA Awareness & Accessibility Committee Bylaws

  • Dr. Loy, Dr. Huff, and Ms. Clark completed an update on the Committee bylaws.

    Committee members should review and return any comments or suggestions to Ms. Clark by Monday, April 26, 2004.

    Items to add to the bylaws include:
    • Appointment to membership from President
    • Quorum for committee; Proxy count 5 members = quorum

  • Update on on Accessibility Master List

  • Ms. Clark and Dr. Huff met; Mr. Herzog gave input and received building plans from Mr. Herzog.

    Ms. Clark and Dr. Huff developed checklist based on state measurements, revised to focus on function and compliance.

    Checklist will be submitted to committee for review.

    List of fully accessible and not accessible facilities should be created for quick reference.

  • Update on Diversity Survey Results

  • Dr. Huff checked on the Diversity Survey. The 600 page document is being pared down before reviewing.

  • Update on Bicycle Policy

  • Dr. Huff obtained bicycle policy from the student handbook; policy covers our needs.

    E-mail Mr. Wynn Walker, Mr. Mark Jozefowicz, and Dr. James Conneely to ask how to approach the enforcement of the policy.

    Committee should be proactive about reporting bicycles chained and help enforce the policy.

    In the fall, the committee needs to ask The Progress to do a story on bicycle etiquette.

    At Spring Fling a picture will be taken of a bicycle on a ramp, this picture will hopefully be publicized along with the article this upcoming fall.

New Business
  • Spring Fling [April 14, 2004]

  • Spring Fling will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2004, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

    ADA activity will consist of wheelchair obstacle course.

  • PBS Teleconference: Untangling the Web [April 22, 2004]

  • A flyer was passed around for committee review.

    The Committee requests monthly updates of the taskforce on developing policy for accessibility for online learning.

  • Awareness Month [October 2004] Jump Start

  • No issues at this time.

  • Introduction of new ex-officio members

  • No issues at this time.

  • Mission Statement in regards to "community"

  • No issues at this time.

  • Member Brought Issues

  • Interpreters for Community Education
    • Cost-sharing to include indirect funds
    • Add to agenda for next meeting

    Supplement to fall schedule book will have a map with handicapped parking.

    Project Success LD program has been funded for two more years.

    HPR 390 course for Persons with Disabilities will be provided, get the word out!
Motion was made to adjourn by Ms. Coyer; second by Mr. Herzog, all were in favor.
