The meeting was brought to order by Dr. Huff. Review of the minutes from January 14, 2004, meeting; motion was made to accept the minutes by Ms. Kalscheur, second by Dr. Walker; all were in favor.

Old Business

  • Update on parking places by Weaver Building

  • All supplies and signs are available; the only issue is the bus drivers are the ones that take care of sign placement and implementation. There’s a shortage of staff so taking one of the bus drivers off of his/her route would not be doable at this time.

Dr. Good asked if Facilities Services could assist in this process. She mentioned that she would contact Mr. James Street for further information.

Mr. Mark Jozefowicz mentioned to Dr. Huff that he was going to try to meet with Dr. James Conneely this upcoming summer regarding parking issues on campus.

Dr. Huff plans on following up with Mr. Jozefowicz in a couple of weeks.

  • Update on signage for bicycle racks

  • Discussion tabled till March 2004 meeting.

  • Membership issues

  • There’s now a finalized membership list for this semester. The official committee list was sent in to the Office of the President on Friday, January 23, 2004.

Official list was passed around for review.

The totals that were received from the letter of membership are as follows:

Yes, I will be able to attend…1664%
No, I will not be able to attend…14%
    No Response832%

Dr. Huff asked the committee to invite Ms. Nicole Keller (student) to the next meeting. Ms. Keller has showed an interest in the committee and has had other faculty contact Dr. Huff.

  • Master Accessibility List

  • Dr. Huff requested a checklist from the Kentucky Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. Dr. Huff mentioned that if anyone else needed a copy of this checklist that she would be happy to get them copies.

A copy of the checklist was passed around for review.

The first step in getting this master list started is having a usable tool/checklist. This checklist should be fairly generic.

Dr. Huff, Mr. Herzog and Ms. Clark will meet to talk and work on getting a tool available for use.

The committee will work towards basic information first and build itself up to adding pictures, exit plans, etc.

New Business
  • Letter to the President for Accessibility Coordinator Position

  • Draft of the letter was provided to committee members via e-mail as well as copies provided at the meeting.

Thoughts and comments were provided to Dr. Huff and Dr. Hayes; they will take those suggestions and draft another letter for the committee to review.

Some items that people needed to be included in the letter are: including everyone from employees, students and the community; activity accessibility; and accessibility statement.

Dr. Huff and Dr. Hayes well have their draft ready to send to Ms. Clark for committee distribution by Friday, February 13, 2004. All revisions of the letter need to be sent back to Ms. Clark at accessibility@eku.edu no later than Friday, February 20, 2004.

  • ADA Awareness & Accessibility Committee Bylaws

  • Discussion tabled till March 2004 meeting.

Please review the bylaws with your comments and suggestions for next time. If you need another copy please e-mail accessibility@eku.edu.

  • University Climate Survey Results

  • Dr. Huff requested results from Ms. Stacey Street with Institutional Research in regards to the University Climate Survey.

This survey is in phase one and is very raw material. The committee needs to be aware of these results. The narrative section of this survey is not ready at this time.

  • Emergency Procedures for residents with disabilities

  • Dr. Huff asked if there were emergency procedures in place for students and residents of EKU that have disabilities. Ms. Belluscio stated that there are procedures and would forward Dr. Huff a copy of such procedures.

  • Member Brought Issues

  • No issues at this time.
Motion was made to adjourn by Dr. Walker; second by Ms. Belluscio, all were in favor.
