Discussion regarding the position included having a newly set timeline, complying with the state regulations, and having support to redistribute.

In regards to the support, Faculty will receive support from the newly formed, “Academy.” The Academy will provide an instructional designer to help assist with courses and production of media needed for online courses. The Academy is also an avenue for support as well as supports ADA compliance.

Motion was made by Mr. Boyle to have a combination of efforts from the Department of Continuing Education & Outreach and the Department of Student Judicial Affairs & Disabilities Office to discuss financial and development of this position that would provide services to faculty, staff, students, and the community; second by Ms. Belluscio and Dr. Hayes; all were in favor.

  • Update on ADA Awareness & Accessibility Committee Bylaws

Ms. Clark passed around a copy of the bylaws for review.

The committee was asked to review and make any comments to the bylaws and have those comments provided to Ms. Clark no later than Wednesday, June 02, 2004.

For a copy of the bylaws, please contact Ms. Clark at kerri.clark@eku.edu or accessibility@eku.edu.

  • Update on Accessibility Master List

Ms. Clark passed around a copy of the checklist for review.

The committee was asked to review and make any comments to the checklist and have those comments provided to Ms. Clark no later than Wednesday, June 02, 2004.

For a copy of the checklist, please contact Ms. Clark at kerri.clark@eku.edu or accessibility@eku.edu.

Once the checklist is approved, committee members will be asked to go through individual buildings and fill out the checklist. A student (Mr. G.W. Newsome) from Facilities Services will assist in this process. Mr. Herzog will assist Mr. Newsome with the checklist starting in the Jones Building and will provide the committee with suggestions for the checklist.

Once the checklists are completed for the entire campus, results will be shared with the committee and provided on the committee website.

  • Update on Diversity Survey Results

Dr. Huff is unable to get the results.

Ms. Allen mentioned that the final report would be processed within the next few weeks.

  • Spring Fling

The event was a success. She also suggested that the obstacle course be done at the upcoming Awareness Day events in October.

Ms. Belluscio wants to send out thank yous' to the following groups:
    • The EKU Bookstore: Donation of Prizes
    • Facilities Services: Construction of Obstacle Course and various other items
    • People working the table and preparation of the event

  • PBS Teleconference: Untangling the Web

Ms. Belluscio mentioned that the teleconference had an attendance of 25 people; it was videotaped and rebroadcast on campus television the following week.

A copy of the video is located in Instructional Media.

The broadcast itself was more of an introduction to why things need to be accessible rather than the technical steps to make accessible online courses.

New Business

  • Member Brought Issues

Dr. Loy mentioned that his children are in track for the first time this year with Model Laboratory School. At the various locations of their meets, he noticed that all the bleachers had wheelchair accessible ramps. When they would meet at EKU, he noticed that the bleachers were not accessible and did not provide that option. The question is does EKU have this in their plan to make their bleachers accessible?

Another issue with Model Laboratory School is the wheelchair access. You have to enter from one end of the school and go to the other to get to events within the gymnasium. The committee responded in regards of trying to make Model more aware.

Along with this issue, the front wheelchair curb cut is consistently blocked and he asked the committee if it was doable to have it painted and have signage placed to show that this is a curb cut. The committee suggested that Dr. Loy contact Mr. Mark Jozefowicz and ask if the curb cut could be painted this summer.

Ms. Belluscio mentioned that she has the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education: Survey for Accessibility Policy, Process and Practices for Internet-based Instruction report. She would be happy to provide it to any one that is interested in having a copy. Please contact Ms. Belluscio at teresa.belluscio@eku.edu.
Motion was made to adjourn by Dr. Walker; second by Mr. Boyle, all were in favor.
