Dr. Huff and Ms. Clark have set up times for them to go and assess some buildings before Ms. Clark goes on maternity leave. Dr. Huff requested that members of the committee that have any feedback regarding any of the below buildings to please forward that information to her and/or Ms. Clark.

The buildings that Dr. Huff and Ms. Clark will be assessing are as follows:
    Combs Classroom Building
    Keith Building
    Library Complex (Crabbe Library/Little Addition)
    Powell Building
    Cammack Building

    Student Services Building
    Jones/Coates Buildings
    Roark Building
If any one is interested in joining Dr. Huff and Ms. Clark please contact them for the scheduled time and building.

Ms. Clark has been in contact with ITDS Networking requesting database access for this building project. This will be a great feature of information for the ADA Awareness & Accessibility Committee website. It will be coming soon!

  • Update on ADA Awareness & Accessibility Committee Bylaws

Since the last meeting, Ms. Kalscheur brought up some possible changes that regarded Article VIII: Voting. Changes were made and the following sections that now make up Article VIII include Section 1: Quorum, Section 2: Decision Making, Section 3: General Voting, Section 4: Electronic Voting, and Section 5: Proxy Voting.

The committee agreed to the changes Ms. Kalscheur suggested and they were placed within the bylaws.

Dr. Mercer requested that the number of student representation be raised as well as adding members at large to the Membership Representation Table (MRT). In conjunction with this change, the voting membership of the committee was raised from 20 members to 25 members under Article V.

Motion was made by Dr. Loy to accept these changes and to adopt the bylaws, second by Ms. Eppley; all were in favor.

Dr. Huff will contact Public Relations and Marketing regarding placing an advertisement in the EKUToday for student involvement as well as other faculty/staff involvement with the committee.

  • Update on Web Accessibility and Open Forums in Spring 2005

Upcoming open forums for web accessibility will be happening Wednesday, January 26, 2005, and Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. in the Jaggers Room, Powell Building. A few of the members of the committee will be on the panel at these forums. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The policy has been revised and has been presented to the Provost. The University has not provided a commitment at this point and is searching for resources to help implement the policy.

Dr. Loy mentioned the text transcoder program, LIFT. LIFT is a product that would make text equivalents to current and future webpages.

Ms. Clark mentioned that the text versions of webpages along with the graphical versions have to be accessible, just having a text equivalent would not fulfill the requirement of being accessible.

Ms. Eppley along with Mr. Phillip Logsdon has prepared a web accessibility website with resources and tools to help individuals prepare their websites and teaching documents to be web accessible. You can visit this site at http://www.accessibility.eku.edu/.

Ms. Eppley and ITDS are presenting a series of workshops regarding web accessibility. The sessions cover different aspects of web accessibility. The sessions are as follows:
    Session 1: Awareness
    Session 2: Microsoft Office
    Session 3: PDF and Multimedia
    Session 4: Blackboard
Session 5: Web Developers (Dreamweaver, Contribute)
If you are interested in attending any of the sessions above, please check out the ITDS Workshop calendar at http://w4.eku.edu/cgi-bin/webevent/webevent.cgi?cmd=opencal&cal=cal25&.
